We Are Family

Did you ever have a totally rotten day where everyone seemed to be against you, and your brain stopped functioning like a normal human’s, and also you found your 4th gray hair? And then you got home to your humid apartment with a stank cat and almost cried the minute you walked in the door? And then you noticed a package on the table from your amazing, very-soon-to-be sister-in-law with 2 of the most beloved cookbooks of your hometown?

No? Well. I’m sorry for you then.

Thanks for making my terrible day soooo so much better, Steph! I cried anyway, but out of happiness.

Meat the Weekend

Happy weekend, kids! I’m seeing this monstrosity in concert this weekend with my fabulous cousin, Casey. I’m so stoked! I’ve heard she puts on quite a show. Judging from this picture… I’d say those rumors are true.

Where I Be

Dinner! Not every night. Don't worry, mom.

Dear readers,

You’ve probably noticed some radio silence lately. I haven’t been neglecting you on purpose… but mama’s been tired. Real tired. I started a brand spanking new job last week and I am totally in love with it, but it’s been kicking my butt a little. Dinners have been a lot of takeout, scrambled eggs, and apples and yogurt, and lunch has been quickly inhaled between conference calls and training sessions.

I plan on picking back up with posts VERY soon, and I’ll have many a delicious item for you beginning with a sweet Valentine’s Day post. But as for now… radio silence continues. Please excuse this interruption.

Love always,
Lauren E.

That Sounds Delicious

Apparently this is a whole week of self-indulgent posts… Awhile back I Twittered (Tweeted?) that I would love to post about all my favorite songs that include food references (there are a lot of them…), but that probably no one would be interested in that but me. My lovely friend Ashley responded that she’d like to read it, and really… all I needed was one more person who cared. Some of these you may know, and others maybe only my family and an AM radio DJ in South Dakota have ever listened to. Either way, kiddies, here they are.

I went to a panel discussion one time about food writing and Melissa Clark, a food writer and New York Times columnist, said that if you’re really into food and you also like to write, somehow you always find yourself incorporating food into your writing. I like to think if you’re a music lover, whenever you hear a song with food mentioned you pick those lyrics out immediately. Call me crazy. Call me hungry. Just don’t call me late for dinner.

See what I did there?

Restaurants vs the Interwebz

Self indulgent post in 3… 2…

Hello! Have you ever thought to yourself, “I wonder when Restaurant ABC opens and if they have a vegetarian option on their dinner menu” and then found yourself on some graphic designer’s senior thesis in the form of a web site? And all you really wanted was some basic info? But now you’re not going to that restaurant purely out of spite?

No?

Maybe stop reading then.

This is from McSweeney’s, and I am in love with it.
